I’m confused. The Sept. 30 post, “‘Citizen Kane’ scripts fetch $102,000 at auction; Glenn Beck among buyers,” reports that “Welles’ personal 3rd revised final shooting script with numerous hand-notations, signed by principal cast members, as well as a typed manuscript with Welles' handwritten directorial notes for a proposed television adaptation of Citizen Kane in the 1950s were purchased by Ralph Sipper of Ralph Sipper Books of Santa Barbara.”
But the one for October 20 (“Lilly Library adds rare Orson Welles scripts to collection”) notes:
“The Lilly Library is pleased to announce the addition of important new acquisitions to our Orson Welles manuscript collections. A full description and inventory are available here.
The new additions include:
Welles’ personal copy of the 3rd revised final shooting script for Citizen Kane, which has been heavily annotated and signed by the principal cast members . . .”
So—who got the “personal copy” of the Kane “3rd revised final shooting script”? Sipper Books, or the Lilly?
Auction question
Re: Auction question
A bit confused myself. Initially, Glenn Beck's comments on Facebook sounded as if he had the 3rd revision. But I was contacted by a reputable book dealer and told the buyer was Ralph Sipper. Now, it appears to be in the hands of the Lilly Library. The auction house does not identify winning bidders.

Re: Auction question
Hello from the Lilly Library! I'm happy to clear up the confusion. As noted elsewhere on the site, we are delighted to be able to add these important and wonderful new items to our Welles collections. Ralph Sipper of Ralph Sipper Books of Santa Barbara, served as our very able agent for the auction and we greatly appreciate all of his work with us on this purchase.
