I think that is the reason why she worked on the audio. But why didn't she do the research and see that other prints had better audio and the Desdemona close up. She could have taken the negative from New Jersey and added the Desdemona close up and the better audio track from the other prints and it would have been closer to what Welles intended. This would have been better and cheaper than getting the Chicago Symphony to redo the score.

That's the reconstructed 107 minute version from (I think) the late 70s, which restored the original soundtrack with the Scottish accents. It's the same version which has long been available on VHS, but includes Return to Glennascaul as an extra. The description says its the South Korean dvd release.

The theatrical release version (cut down to 90 minutes by Welles at Republic's request) with narration and different dubbing used to play on tv, but I think it's never been released to video.

Yeah, and also when she decided to redo the music, she had the guy listen to the film and imagine what Lavagnino wrote, instead of just asking his estate for use of the score (he passed away in 1987).

A very strange way to go about things; in addition, the family almost sued for unauthorized use of his work: they were VERY unhappy with what was done to the music.
