I thought Welles said in Arena that shooting Arkadin was "agony." That might explain that outtake where he's drunk and roaring with laughter at the poor fellow trying to deliver his line.

Have I misremembered? It has been several years since I watched either of those things.

The film is campy, kitschy fun, but I don't think it's the film Welles wanted to make.

It's definitely not the film Louis Dolivet wanted him to make. He wound up taking Welles to court over it.
