Decided to check Welles on Tomatoes:
Kane: 100/90% certified fresh
Magnificent Ambersons: 91/85%
It’s All true: 83/68%
The Stranger: 96/80%
Lady from Shanghai: 85/84% certified fresh
Macbeth: 88/76%
Othello: 93/84%
Mr. Arkadin: 83/81%
Touch of Evil: 96/92 certified fresh
The Trial: 87/87%
Don Quixote: 43/38%
Falstaff: 98/85% certified fresh
The Immortal Story: 92/71%
F For Fake: 88/88% certified fresh
The Other Side of the Wind: 82/57% certified fresh
Pretty good! 6 films certified fresh, and critical above 80% on everything except the horrible version of Quixote (which I felt should be included as it is a legal reconstruction, was premiered at a film festival, and has been released on a legal DVD). The audiences scores are also very good, with everything above 70% except Quixote, It’s All True and (Yikes!) The Other Side of the Wind, lower than everything else except Quixote. Perhaps that will come up with time. The real surprise for me is Shanghai, with high numbers and being certified fresh.
