I just wish we had more to choose from!
I like F for Fake for its editing, humour, and charm.
I like The Trial for its editing and very disturbing mood.
I like Ambersons for its atmosphere, and that delectable flavour it has that I couldn't ever put in words.
I like Kane for how well it does almost everything.
I like Falstaff for its characters and humour and that terrible ending which makes me cry.
I like The Immortal Story for that very still, contemplative atmosphere it has - almost like Ambersons.
I enjoy Macbeth and Arkadin and Shaghai and Othello, but for me they all grate against my nerves a little too much. I repesct them a lot more than I like them.
I like The Stranger all right, all right! Had Welles chosen a career like that, well, that would have been a cool enough alternative. He might have made enough that way to have still made one of his own films on the side every so often. But I realize that it was a personal and artistic choice - he didn't want to make that kind of Hollywood film or work that way, so that's fine. Whatever made him happy. Even if it was just conversation, wine, and a big plate with the biggest damned lobster I've ever seen (ie F for Fake.)
We could do another thread rating radio shows, since there are hundreds to choose from, but not many people have heard enough of them to weigh in.
Is my avatar animated on your screen? I think he's funny. Sorry if he annoys. I found some others I liked as well.
