I’ve just found and joined this group in hopes that someone can help me with a Welles’ timeline. Before anyone says, “buy a biography,” I have and they’re on the way.
But I recently decided to take a Summer 2020 trip to LA. In searching homes near Sunset Boulevard to rent, I found a listing for 8545 Franklin Avenue where, supposedly, Welles lived during the production of “Citizen Kane.” As a Welles fan, I decided that would make for a fun week.
Now, I’ve seen various reports that the house was demolished at one point, though the real estate documents claim it’s the same house dating back to the early-30s. I’ve seen it noted that RKO rented the house for Welles. And the property owner claims that Rita Hayworth (with Welles, I would assume), Barbra Streisand, Frank Sinatra and David Bowie have also “lived” there.
I’ll be happy with the home and location and amenities even if I find that I’ve been duped, but I still wanted to check in here to see if anyone might have more information about that home or Welles’ time there.
Many thanks in advance for any info you can provide.
