...and I think Gillette's characterization definitely informs Welles' a bit (with a little Lamont Cranston mixed in.)

The Gillette film was long a lost grail; now found, it is dated in form - even for its own era. But Gillette, man of the stage in his only film, is surprisingly good.

As far as Gillette audio, that clip was an amateur recording late in life. The actor did do two early Holmes radio shows, but alas, recordings (if made) have not surfaced.
