War of the Worlds on Criterion.

Criterion Collection is releasing the 1953 film War of the Worlds on Blu-ray on July 7th with Orson's radio adaptation.

Sadly, without the Gene Barry and Ann Robinson audio-commentary of earlier editions. Although Orson's radio broadcast is there, we have it available here and on youtube. This is another of Criterion's "re-tread" projects and better and new features are needed for their DVD version.i

I noticed Criterion releases some titles that are already on Blu-ray. I wish they would release more that are not and there are a few that they released on laserdisc or earlier on dvd that they have not touched.

Yes, Criterion are really falling down in terms of their past reputation. They are now being superceeded by companies such as Eureka with its Masters of Cinema series, Olive, and Kino-Lorber. The forthcoming WAR OF THE WORLDS could have been much better with new features added. Criterion's Dietrich-Von Sternberg box set was a complete disaster with the UK providing a much better version.
