Dinner at Eight

Postby Wellesnet » Tue Feb 17, 2015 7:39 pm

On 18 February 1940, Orson Welles's production of "Dinner at Eight" was broadcast on "The Campbell Playhouse," CBS-Radio.

Another classic play from the Algonquin Round Table, in this case George S. Kauffmann and Edna Ferber. Scripted for the Campbell Playhouse by Hermann Mankewicz, who had co-written the 1933 film version, with John and Lionel Barrymore, and who was at this time, also working on the script for "Citizen Kane" with John Houseman.

Interesting guest cast, with Clara "Auntie Em" Blandick, Hedda Hopper in the Marie Dressler part, and a young Lucille Ball in the Jean Harlow part, both making their debut with the Mercury.
