L'assassinat d'Orson Welles (French novel)

Postby Wellesnet » Tue Mar 03, 2020 5:06 pm

Festival de Cannes, 1949.
In his Carlton suite, Orson Welles is targeted by a shooter. The bullet grazed him before breaking a mirror. But who can blame the director of Citizen Kane? To ensure his safety and unmask the culprit, Orson hires Jérôme Dracéna, a private film buff, as comfortable in a boxing ring as in front of a camera. La Croisette and its stars, Paris and its traps, dangerous starlets and producers of large cigars...The Assassination of Orson Welles immerses us in the picturesque world of cinema of the time. And fiction here is even more real than reality. What Jérôme Dracéna will discover by trying to enter the mind of Orson Welles, a romantic genius and a great master of illusion.

Journalist for Paris Match, L'Express and Vogue Hommes, Jean-Pierre de Lucovich has long been an "infiltrator in the beautiful world". After Take care of Arletty! (Plon, Prix Arsène Lupine 2011) and Satan lives at 21 (L'Archipel, 2015), he has published a highly noted book of memories, People Bazaar (Séguier, 2016).

I just bought the book. (Irresistible, despite the fact that shipping doubles the cost.) Will look forward to "immersing" myself in it!

L’Assassinat d’Orson Welles (The Assassination of Orson Welles), a novel by French writer Jean-Pierre de Lucovitch, is one of five contenders for the Prix France Bleu. The prize, awarded to a French detective novel, will be bestowed in mid June 2021.

None of his books appear to have been translated. Seen this before with European mysteries--definite translation lag. If it's popular enough, there might be a TV series of his film star mysteries. There's a popular French mystery series, Blood of the Vine, whose sleuth is an oenologist.
