Please educate a relative N00b, RE: Higham

So, Charles Higham's name is pretty much worthless in Welles Academia, as I understand. I'm afraid to admit that the very first book on Welles I bought (before I knew much about him at all, really) was his "Orson Welles: The Rise and Fall of an American Genius". I understand from reading a few comments in old threads here that Mr. Higham has made up stories in regards to Orson? I guess I'm just trying to get a better handle on why exactly his book(s?) is/are held in such low regard.

I'd greatly appreciate any illumination you fine folks could provide.

You can read Orson Welles letter to Peter Bogdanovich about all the mistakes in Higham's first book on Welles, THE FILMS OF ORSON WELLES, as well as Peter Bogdanovich's letter to the New York Times describing the errors the book contained at the Wellesnet main page here:

Wow. I hadn't seen that article before. I get it now. That's absolutely ridiculous.
