Welles on other filmmakers

Been visiting this place for 10 years finally decided to post something.

I was wondering if anyone had any quotes or memories of Orson talking about other filmmakers. I find myself fascinated by what he thought about others

I've read his praise of John Ford and Jean Renoir and a few others (Mamollion, Chaplin, Lewis) in the Bogdanovich "This is Orson Welles".
There's the quote about Elia Kazan to a journalist, that I got from this board-"You have the wrong Metteur en scene..." How Kazan betrayed his colleagues then made Waterfront etc
I remember a minor slight against Nicholas Ray, when Welles complained that the French told him he was one of the 3 great filmmakers, but the other two were Griffith and Ray: "They always get you with the last one"

Does anyone have any others?

More than anything does anyone know who the filmmakers Welles attacked in the Bogdanovich book? The part that he had removed. I heard one was Richard Brooks "I'd have Brooks put in jail for what he did to Lord Jim" were there any others

Welcome, James SI. You'll find Welles quotes on other filmmakers scattered throughout the archives, but yes, it would be nice to have them collected into one place.
