When Disney+ launches Nov. 12, a seldom-seen movie with Orson Welles will be among its first offerings. Welles was the uncredited narrator of the 1940 version of Swiss Family Robinson, released a year before Citizen Kane. It starred Thomas Mitchell, Edna Best and Tim Holt.
Decades later, Walt Disney acquired the rights to the RKO film in an effort to suppress its possible re-release and comparisons to its own 1960 version starring John Mills, Dorothy McGuire and James MacArthur.

Swiss Family Robinson - 1940
Re: Swiss Family Robinson - 1940
Remember this running on BBC TV in the late 50s when it purchased the rights to the RKO Library that included the first TV screenings of KANE and AMBERSONS. Yoo young then to discern "His Master's Voice" in that film.
