Where is WHERE IS PARSIFAL?

Postby Le Chiffre » Tue Mar 05, 2013 1:12 pm

Here's an interesting article on the long unseen 1984 film WHERE IS PARSIFAL? The article is essentially about the decline of director Terence Young, but it has some good info on Orson Welles too. If I'm not mistaken, this film marked the last time Welles created a character on film, since he basically just plays himself in Jaglom's SOMEONE TO LOVE, and TRANSFORMERS was just a voiceover:

Once listed by the British Film Institute as a lost film, WHERE IS PARSIFAL, which is still listed as "lost" at Wikipedia, was released on VHS in Australia and on DVD in Italy. PARSIFAL was removed from the BFI list when director Henri Helman donated his personal 35mm print.

For those of you with a region free DVD player, the Italian DVD can be purchased at Amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/CE-Qualcosa-Di-Strano-Famiglia/dp/B0041KXM82/ref=sr_1_2?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1362620746&sr=1-2&keywords=where+is+parsifal

Thanks for the info Mido; good to know it's available on video in at least a couple of countries. I'll wait to find out how big of a part Welles has before I consider buying it. I suspect it's just a cameo, and I wouldn't want another situation like the one with Sacha Guitry's NAPOLEON, where the VHS advertised Welles as the star of the film, even though he was only in it for about 30 seconds.

I was rooting around in Netflix today and discovered that WHERE IS PARSIFAL is now available on demand.

Youtube excerpt from the film, with Welles as Klingsor the 19th:

Welles also appears much longer in Gance's AUSTERLIZ as American submarine inventor Robert Fulton. He speaks superb French.
