'Jangada de Welles'

Postby Wellesnet » Sun Nov 10, 2019 7:24 pm

It's All True, the aborted Orson Welles movie on the plight of impoverished Brazilian fishermen, is the subject of A Jangada de Welles (The Welles Raft).
A Jangada de Welles was written and directed by Brazilian filmmakers Petrus Cariry and Firmino Holanda.
The Fortaleza-born Cariry has made such movies as Quando o Vento Sopra and O Grão. Holanda is a professor of film studies at Universidade Federal do Ceará and author of the book Orson Welles no Ceará. The pair collaborated in 2004 on O Cidadão Jacaré (Citizen Jacaré).

(Mostra de Cinema de Ouro Preto ganha edição online with films and shows
CineOP completes 15 years and discusses the preservation of audiovisuals as an important heritage)

Já “A Jangada de Welles” (2019), by Firmino Holland and Petrus Cariry, investigates the passage of American filmmaker Orson Welles - author of the classic “Cidadão Kane” (1941) - in Brazil, during the recording of the document “É Tudo Verdade ”, About the carioca carnival and the jangadeiros from Ceará.

During the filming of the Welles film, the jangadeiros leader, Manuel “Jacaré”, died accidentally. This event evokes memories of the new state of Getúlio Vargas and the fight of two jangadeiros directito trabalhistas.
