Welles & Cotten narrate two short films about Mexico

Postby Le Chiffre » Wed Apr 18, 2012 12:57 am

FROM WELLESNET FACEBOOK:

At the Academy Website they have posted a rare short film narrated by Orson Welles, done when he returned from South America in 1943. There is also a film on Vera Cruz, narrated by Joseph Cotten.

The Mexican Tourist Association presents
A TOWN IN OLD MEXICO (1943)
Narrated by Orson Welles

Three towns south of Mexico City -- Puebla, Orizaba, and Fortin de las Flores -- still have the atmosphere of Spanish colonial times. Photographed by Luis Orsono Barona. Techinical Supervisor: F. Gregoria Castillo. Produced by Mitla Films.

VERA CRUZ (1943):
Narrated by Joseph Cotten

The original gateway to the New World is now a major port and vacationland. A visit to Xalapa shows a sports stadium, the capital statehouse, Pico de Orizaba. Also seen are coffee and orange growers in Coatapec, fishers in Alvarado, a juapango dance in the town of Tlacotalpan. Narrated by Joseph Cotten. Photographed by Luis Orsono Barona. Music by Vittorio Gianni. Produced by Mitla Films.

LATIN AMERICA AND HOLLYWOOD

Motivated by President Roosevelt’s Good Neighbor policy and the efforts of Nelson Rockefeller, the President’s adviser on inter-American affairs, the film industry established the Motion Picture Society for the Americas, which urged studios to make films that used entertainment to promote cross-cultural awareness.

Another good find, Terry. Thanks. Quite a departure from IT'S ALL TRUE.
