Here's what the Buenos Aires Herald had to say yesterday:

http://www.buenosairesherald.com/articl ... son-welles´-movie-to-be-concluded-after-30-years-
Orson Welles left a movie unfinished,"The Other Side of the Wind", and more than a thousand reels well locked in a parisian storehouse in France which inedit content could be revealed in 2015, 30 years after his death and a century later after his birth on may 6.

The material, considered a cinematograhical treasure, has remained hidden since Welles´ death under the custody of his only daughter and heiress Beatrice, who shares the rights with actress Oja Kodar and the french-iranian company L'Astrophore.

Despite several efforts to disclose the material, the lack of agreements bewteen the parts made "The Other Side of the Wind" impossible to be finished until producers Frank Marshall y Filip Jan Rymsza – under the Royal Road Entertainment record label- managed to unblock the situation in 2014.

This company has the rights to conclude the film, a job that is doing very discretly according to officials sources.

Currently, the reels are being categorized and still remain in Paris waiting to be tranported to Los Angeles, US. Once in California, the producers will start the movie´s editing but they have yet to hire a top of the line editor able to imitate Welles´s unique style.

Welles shot between 1970 and 1976, not continuously and very chaotically, a very personal project that failed to be finished due to lack of fundings. The script consisted in a semi-autobiographical story that was focused on a legendary director who moved to Hollywood in order to revive his dying career.

I am typically uncomfortable with news stories that have no bylines AND quote unnamed sources. I wish there was a time element regarding when they talked to the "officials sources." Two days ago? Two weeks ago?? Two months ago??? It makes a BIG difference.
What is meant by "conclude the film, a job that is doing very discretly"? We know they have catalogued and indexed the negative and put together a blueprint. Is it that what they mean or is it much more?
Stories like this are frustrating. I am sure it is 100 percent accurate, but is it "new" news or a rewrite of what we have reported here two months ago. There are basic rules of journalism that have gone out the window in recent years.
Mike Teal asked Filip Jan Rymsza at Indiana University on Friday about the hiring of an editor. The response was "stay tuned."
Rymsza also stated at IU and update would be forthcoming. Hopefully, it will come soon and clear things up.

Ray, you state in your comment that the negative has been scanned. May I ask who gave you this information?

When did I say that?? I said it was indexed and catalogued.
BTW, Peter Bogdanovich is definitely not MIA. As for Joe McBride and Jonathan Rosenbaum, their roles have never been spelled out to me in great detail.
Are they going be asked to review a rough cut or involved earlier in the process? I don't know.
Hopefully, the update Filip Jan Rymsza promised will be soon and answer some of these questions,

They should ask Steven Soderbergh to do the editing. He has a sellable name and the skill set to put the jigsaw puzzle together. Failing that, they should hire 3 different young directors/editors -- give each of them copies of all the footage and lock them in separate rooms for 3 months with Final Cut Pro. Then compare the results and use the best parts of each.

Crowdfunding launched for ‘The Other Side of the Wind’, film editor hired
The campaign runs through mid June. There is a pitch video contained in the link below.

I can't think of a better film project to give money to - essentially, Welles was attempting crowdfunding by making a pitch at the 1975 AFI awards!

In view of the centenary and the world wide appeal of Welles this has a very good chance of succeding. However, I hope bodies such as the AFI and BFI contribute a hefty sum. I doubt whether Speilberg will knowing his past record.

Thanks to Daniel Rafaelic for the link to this 1979 Croatian TV interview with Orson Welles and Oja Kodar, speaking about THE OTHER SIDE OF THE WIND. At about the 3:20 mark, Welles says that the film is about 95% shot AND EDITED!

Very interesting and weird, unless he misspoke and meant it was 95 percent shot and (partially) edited?
According to Joe McBride's book What Ever Happened to Orson Welles?, Dominque Antoine said in a 1998 interview that Welles showed her a two hour and 45 minute work print he intended to trim by 20 minutes. Oja Kodar and Gary Graver insisted no such print existed. And it's hard to believe he would have kept it a secret from both of them.
Josh Karp found no proof of its existence and neither has producer Filip Jan Rymsza. But what was Antoine referring to?
As with all things Welles, we will likely never know for certain.

I think they made a mistake that they put the crowdfunding campaign to IndieGoGo as Kickstarter is much more popular and has much larger userbase, I think they could already have a lot more in pledges if it'd been in Kickstarter.

Ray, I've been asked to view a rough cut when it's ready, but something tells me this is still a long way off.

Indiegogo has a MAJOR advantage over Kickstarter. You can keep the money raised whether you meet your goal or not! If you set a $2M goal on Kickstarter and raise $1.9M, you get nothing. With Indiegogo's Flexible Funding drive, if you set a $2M goal and collect only $1M, you get to keep the $1M to use toward your project. It requires donors to place a great deal of trust into the campaign drive.

I was selfishly hoping you, Joe McBride, Peter Bogdanovich and Frank Marshall would spend the beautiful summer months locked up in a screening room, but I am afraid you are right. Curious -- I know it was a different animal -- but how long did the re-edit of Touch of Evil take?

If that's the case, then it will be interesting to see how much pressure is put on them to finish it, since they're playing with the public's money now.
