Nice to see Orson's film talked about in the press and with the soon to be Blu-ray release of Othello it's going to be another good year for us to see his films.

Agreed. I have to say I've never been that interested in "Film X about to be released on DVD/Blue-Ray" stories (but I'm probably only saying that because I live in a part of the world that's been spoilt with good DVD releases) - but the cumulative effect of all these high-quality releases is that Welles's work (both in cinema/TV, and in other media) is now a heck of a lot more accessible and obviously impressive than it was to all but a select few, 10 (or even 5) years ago.

The casual cineaste, who is vaguely aware of Welles's existence and is curious to learn more, no longer needs to have their whole appreciation begin and end with the DVD of Citizen Kane: The Lady from Shanghai, Macbeth, Othello, Mr. Arkadin, Touch of Evil, The Trial, Chimes at Midnight, The Immortal Story, F for Fake (and soon, TOSOTW) are now all easily obtainable in high-quality releases. Give it another decade or so, and I'm convinced this is going to do wonders for Welles's reputation, bringing something like a mass audience to his middle/late career work, which he never had in life. And TOSTOW (and the fanfare around its release) will be critical to that.

If only a professional reconstruction of Ambersons could be put together, and the long-lost 1970 workprint of DQ turned up...

Nearly nine minutes of film-within-the-film footage from the work print featuring Bob Random and Oja Kodar has been posted on DailyMotion. Much of it will be familiar to fans. Given the Netfliix deal, I would expect footage like this will not be around too much longer.

Thanks for the link. Looking at the footage it's looks like a different type of film we have never seen from Orson.

Peter Bogdanovich offered his first extensive comments about THE OTHER SIDE IF THE WIND since the negative arrived at Technicolor. Many of the comments he made at the TCM festival on Friday, April 7, will sound familiar, though he did say cutting would begin at the end of this month. (Producers have not named their editing and sound team yet.)

Documentary by Oscar winner Morgan Neville to be released in tandem with the completed Wind:
http://www.wellesnet.com/morgan-neville ... -the-wind/
They'll Love Me When I'm Dead, which takes its name from a prophetic comment Welles made to Peter Bogdanovich, will center on Welles' return to the U.S. in the early 1970s to shoot his ill-fated Hollywood comeback film. The documentary concludes with his death in October 1985.

"Welles is the protagonist of my documentary," Neville said. "(The Other Side of the Wind) is so autobiographical, even though he said it was not."

A self-professed Welles fan. Neville said that the late director's F For Fake is one of his favorite documentaries. "It's why I wanted to make documentaries in the first place."

Terrific news; I'm looking forward to seeing the documentary almost as much as the completed film!

Update from Filip Jan Rymzsa:

Dear Contributors,

Today we unveiled another piece of the Orson Welles puzzle.

Academy Award-winning documentarian Morgan Neville (20 Feet from Stardom, The Best of Enemies) will be directing a companion documentary which will explore Orson’s return to Hollywood during the period he was working on The Other Side of the Wind:
https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/15/movi ... -wind.html

The documentary, tentatively titled They’ll Love Me When I’m Dead (which references the Welles quote “God, how they'll love me when I'm dead!”) will make use of The Other Side of the Wind outtakes and other, archival materials, and Netflix will release the two films in tandem in 2018.

We incorporated this documentary into our rights renegotiation and felt that its prospects were well worth the extra effort even if it extended negotiations.

For those of you getting the limited-edition DVD/Blu-ray, thanks to Morgan and Netflix, we’ll be including the doc alongside the film.

Lastly, I kindly ask that all “Maverick” contributors who haven't done so yet confirm their T-shirt sizes and mailing addresses. We’re finalizing those orders this week and will ship them to you soon.

Sincerely,
Filip

Great news! I enjoyed Neville's BEST OF ENEMIES, about the Gore Vidal/William Buckley feud. Good film. Not sure about the doc title though. I've never really cared for that statement by Welles - it smacks of self-pity a bit - but I suppose it'll do if they can't come up with anything better.

I wonder if that goes as well for those that simply ordered a download.
