Does anyone know for sure when F for fake was actually premiered and shown in theatres? I've seen dates ranging from 1972 to 1977; For example,I just saw a Vincent canby NYT review from Jan. '77, and a dvd review which lists the original release as 1972.

You have to read the timeline at the back of This is Orson Welles and use your best judgment. Each stage of FFF's life cycle is listed.

I'd copy it out for you but I seem to have misplaced it. For the sake of list-making I "date" it to 1975. But you could go as early as 1973. Mike D'Angelo (who's anal about this kind of shit) puts it at 1974. Of course, so does Maltin, so go figure.

D'Angelo tracks mentions of his name across all dimensions of electronic communication throughout the known universe, so thanks to his the previous para, I think we can count on him dropping in to respond in 5, 4, 3, 2............

Web site DVD BEAVER says that the movie was released on
January 30, 1976 in West Germany. You can go to their web
site and see the review of the dvd in detail. :)

I just got the DVD, and it says 1972, while the small print says copywritten by apostrophe in 1975; also, I received an e-mail from a fellow who claims hewas at the premiere at an american university in 1975.

Hmmm... typical Welles confusion.
