Welles and Batman

I apologize if this has been addressed before, but is there any truth to the story that Welles was planning a big screen version of "Batman?"

I saw a rather convincing article (at least on the surface) attesting to this, but other sources indicate it was simply a hoax.

Therefore, I'm calling on you folks to enlightening me.

It was a hoax. There's another one out there about Welles making a film of Moonraker in the 1950s, which is well done. Apparently, the Batman one had many people believing it, but it's all someone's fabrication.
