Ever since rapper Logic sampled a portion of a Orson Welles radio show on race relations last summer for his No Pressure album, we have noticed an increased awareness in the 1946 radio series Orson Welles Commentaries. So, we were thrilled to learn of a podcast series hosted by “Buck Benny,” which features these 75 -year old broadcasts.
“They are hugely interesting and my team of historians and I do introductions for each episode trying our best to give them some context,” Buck says..
Buck has been joined by Vincent Longo of the University of Michigan.
“Each week, the contributors discuss/introduce a different episode of the show, analyzing and contextualizing it in different historical, political, critical (etc.) contexts,” Longo said. “I haven’t been on the show very long. I was invited around the March 1946 episodes, but there are also great speakers throughout including: Kathy Fuller-Seeley, a media history professor at UT Austin, and (Terry Philips and John Henderson).”
