Tom Burke stars as Orson Welles in the David Fincher film Mank.

Director David Fincher (The Social Network) has completed filming on Mank, a movie based on the life of Citizen Kane co-writer Herman J. Mankiewicz.

A release date has yet to be confirmed but it should arrive on Netflix later this year.

According to the streaming giant, the movie will follow the “tumultuous development of Orson Welles’ iconic masterpiece Citizen Kane.”

Oscar winner Gary Oldman (Darkest Hour) stars as Mankiewicz with Tom Burke (BBC’s  The Musketeers, Strike) portraying Welles. Other cast members include Tom Pelphrey as brother Joseph Mankiewicz; Lilly Collins as Mankiewicz’s secretary Rita Alexander; and Amanda Seyfried as Marion Davies.

Shooting on the black-and-white feature began in November in Los Angeles. Additional scenes were shot in Victorville, California.

The screenplay for Mank was penned by Fincher’s late father, Howard Fincher, a former bureau chief for LIFE magazine.

Nine Inch Nails members Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross are recording the score for  Mank. The pair previously worked on Watchmen.

Two decades ago, Mank was going to be Fincher’s followup to his 1997 film The Game, and star his future House of Cards leading man Kevin Spacey as the veteran screenwriter. However, the project stalled because of Fincher’s insistence that the movie be shot in black and white, just like Citizen Kane.

Mank will be Fincher’s first feature film since the release of Gone Girl in 2014.
