Filmmaker and critic Mark Cousins (The Story of Film) gave a hint about what audiences can expect from his upcoming Orson Welles documentary
For the past few months, Cousins has been busy examining Welles artwork for his Orson Welles: A Portrait Of The Artist. (Oscar-winner Michael Moore serves as executive producer and Welles’ youngest daughter, Beatrice, is a creative consultant.)
“I’ve just finished a new documentary about Orson Welles. Yes I know, another film about Orson Welles, but this one is not about his films,” Cousins told Britain’s Sunday Times. “I met his daughter and she gave me the rights to the drawings and paintings of Orson Welles, loads of them, about a thousand, and so I have made a film … It
rethinks Orson Welles’s career in the light of his drawing and paintings. It’s exciting.”
Cousins, 52, made the comments while promoting his most recent offering, The Story of Looking. The film , explores how mankind has looked at objects, events and even ideas over the millennium and also how the way we look changes over our lifetime. He revealed that he learned from a DNA test that he has macular degeneration.
“I’m going to lose my eye sight at some point, which is fine, but you appreciate something at the prospect of it going,” Cousins said.
Cousins, Moore and Beatrice Welles took part in the 2016 Traverse City Film Festival, where the concept of a documentary focusing on Welles’ artwork was first discussed.
