Updated on Jan. 11 to include new dates
By RAY KELLY
Orson Welles’ newly restored Chimes at Midnight premieres at the Film Forum in New York City and Cinefamily in Los Angeles on January 1 before moving on to a dozen other theaters across the country in early 2016.
Janus Films is distributing Welles’ favorite film and has made improvements to the Filmoteca Española restoration, which debuted earlier this year. Criterion Collection President Peter Becker detailed those upgrades in a recent interview with Wellesnet.
The upcoming release, Becker said, is the culmination of more than 20 years and two generations of effort on the part of Janus Films. “There is no film we have waited longer for or worked harder to free up, and none we are prouder to present.”

On the bottom of the poster are logos for Filmoteca Española, Mr. Bongo and Janus Films. Mr.Bongo has released the Filmoteca Española restoration theatrically and on home video in England.
