Sad news: The Criterion Collection website is now listing the The Complete Mr. Arkadin box set as "Out of Print."

Can't believe it was released almost 15 years ago so i hope next year Criterion will re-release it on Blu-ray with a fresh new transfer along with The Trial.

That might actually be good news down the road. It could mean Criterion lost the rights to it, but it could also mean that an upgrade is eventually coming - including new scans and available on both Blu-ray and DVD.

As of now the Criterion Channel is showing Confidential Report and Mr. Arkadin in the Comprehensive and Corinth versions.
I may never buy another DVD.

Looks like the Corinth version has been uploaded to Archive.org. Looks quite good too:

All the versions of Mr. Arkadin are fun to watch. It's a pity they took it out of Orson Welles hands before he was finished making it. I would love to see one more version of It. A version that was supervised by Jonathan Rosenbaum. Maybe they could call it the Rosenbaum version.

When I watch the movie Mr. Arkadin I often think of the James Bond movies. I think they both have a lot in common. Maybe the makers of the Bond movies saw the film Mr. Arkadin and were inspired by it.

Well, most of the Bond movies have the same kind of globe-trotting spirit as MR. ARKADIN, and Gregory Arkadin is the kind of mysterious, larger than life supervillain you see in the Bond films. Also, they did use Gert Frobe for GOLDFINGER, although he only had a small role in Arkadin.

Hi Le Chiffre,
Your right they do have those things in common. I can see Welles style copied in some scenes in the Sean Connery and Roger Moore Bond movies. I think they copied the way Welles shot some of the scenes in Mr. Arkadin. The scene where Van Stratten arrives at Arkadin castle and is talking to Arkadin's assistant. It's shot with the camera pointing in a upward angle. I remember seeing similar scenes in the Bond movies that were shot in the same way. Their are other scenes that are similar in both movies. I my opinion Guy Van Stratten is a very rough version of James Bond. I think the movie Mr. Arkadin might have influenced the James Bond movies.
All the best,
Bye

Their is a link between Orson Welles and the early James Bond movies.
The Irish screenwriter Johanna Harwood worked as a continuity supervisor on the movie Mr. Arkadin. A few years after that she was working as a secretary for the film producer Harry Saltzman. Saltzman asked her to help write the screenplay for the movie Dr. No. She was also a screenwriter on the movie From Russia with Love and she went uncredited for her work on the script of GOLDFINGER.

There ya' go, good catch. Also, Saltzman a few years later provided Welles with the end money needed to finish FALSTAFF.
